Most calls we get about GCSE tuition come in Year 11, usually after the mocks. By then the conversation is about damage limitation: which topics to prioritise and which marks can still be rescued.
Year 10 is a very different conversation, and a much better one.
Why Year 10 matters so much
For most GCSE subjects, Year 10 is when the bulk of new content is taught. Year 11 is shorter than it looks, with mocks, deadlines and revision all squeezed in before the summer exams.
A topic that is not properly understood in Year 10 rarely fixes itself. It gets revisited in Year 11, usually in a hurry, alongside everything else.
The signs worth acting on this term
- homework takes much longer than it used to, or quietly stops appearing
- your child can follow a method in class but not on their own at home
- maths marks dip on one topic and do not recover
- English answers are accurate but short, and lose marks for analysis
- science is fine on facts, but longer written answers fall apart
None of these is a crisis in the autumn of Year 10. Any of them can become one by the spring of Year 11.
Why small groups work well at GCSE
Teenagers often will not put their hand up in a class of thirty. In a group of no more than six, there is nowhere to hide, in a good way. The tutor sees exactly where the method breaks down and fixes it there and then.
Groups also keep the cost sensible, which matters when you are planning for two years rather than two months.
How our GCSE groups work
We teach GCSE English Language, maths and science for Years 10 and 11.
In centre, secondary classes run on Saturdays from 11am to 1pm at both our Catford centre in SE13 and our Beckenham centre in BR3.
Online, GCSE groups run live on Microsoft Teams on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings from 7pm to 8pm, with one subject each evening.
Small group GCSE tuition is £140 a month for one subject, £225 for two and £290 for three. One to one tuition is £40 an hour, and there is a sibling discount of 10% for two children and 15% for three or more.
